2008 - Heads
EDEN. 2008. Acrylic stain and ink on canvas, stretched on to a wooden stretcher. 2x2 metres. This work started out as an enlargement of an image that was originally a 300x300mm lino print on fabric. The change of medium, material and size transformed the image into a new work. The silhouette of the head is an image I have been using for almost two years now and represents humanity. I find it an image that can hold a great deal of power and can be used to signify a multiple of things about the human condition. EDEN is a state of grace that must inevitably be lost.
WILDERNESS. 2008. Acrylic stain and ink on canvas stretched on to a wooden stretcher. 2x2 metres. WILDERNESS is the partner to EDEN and was originated in the same way. It is a work that investigates change, the movement from one state to another. The liquid mediums of acrylic stain and ink have been allowed to run, leak and blot on dry and wet canvas as they do naturally to create a chaos of marks that are held together by the static drawn images laid down first. The juxtaposition of the static and liquid create an interesting tension and mysterious depths.
